Cost relative to other packages. $ = least expensive; $$
= mid-range; $$$ = most expensive. Only the three most and the three least expensive products are
singled out. This is a very general comparative guide, as pricing structures and functionality vary
widely. The most expensive packages are also richest in features. |
| & |
|
Additional products for Web access, archives, or library. |
 |
|
Evaluated by CHIN* in
its most recent comparative analysis (Edition 3, 1999-2000). CHIN tests the product's ability to
import and export data according to current international standard formats. This is an extra safeguard
that an institution will be able to generate data as needed to migrate to another package, receive
data from other systems, or export data in a digitized format. Intervention may be needed to export
from one system to another but the data will not have to be rekeyed. |
Remaining information includes the vendor's address and Web site, and the
name of the contact person designated for MANY referrals, with telephone, fax, and email.
*The Canadian Heritage Information Network. For in-depth comparison and
technical reviews, we highly recommend accessing CHIN's online comparative analysis and/or purchasing
Collections Management Software Reviews. Also available online is a self-teaching course on how to select
software. Hard copy and diskette editions of reviews are available for purchase, ranging in price from $99 -
$136. For information, call CHIN at 1-800-520-CHIN or check their Web page at www.chin.gc.ca.
